1 month old!!

1 month old! Posing with Benny the Bear (that's actually his name, per the tag...from Pottery Barn)

My big boy!

Looking out the window...

Neck Roll Love.

YAWN!

A little smile...he melts my heart.

1 month stats:
Weight: I think around 11 pounds?? We'll find out at his doctor's appointment on Thursday!
Height: He's SO long.. I can't wait to see how tall!
Eating: Exclusively breastfeeding every 2-3 hours during the day, every 2-4 hours at night.
Clothes: Newborn (too small). 0-3 month is perfect. Some 3 months.
Diaper: Size 1 (NEVER WORE NEWBORN!)

My baby boy....

One month. It's been one month (and 3 days..sorry for being late) that you've entered our lives. I truly can't remember life before you. And I don't want to.

You are the sweetest little bundle of love. You are calm, sleepy, adorable. The days in the hospital were so special to me - we spent many hours together, just us, staring at each other and learning each other. You rarely cried and it was always due to hunger. You breastfed right away and continue to do amazing. You don't care if you have a dirty diaper.  We introduced the pacifier early and you LOVE it - we only use the soothies and they work really well. You're a professional bottle taker - Dada has fed you a few times now (using breast milk) and you take it no issue!

You are great in the car - you sleep most of the time. If we are stopped for a while (to get gas, etc) you'll cry in frustration but as soon as we move again, you're happy! Layla sits next to you and often peeks over to make sure you're okay.

You slept SO much you're first couple of weeks home - we had to set an alarm at night to wake up and feed you! We also woke you during the day to eat. I thought you were a dream baby but you're now letting us know when you're hungry ;) You still sleep a lot during the day but you are more awake & alert more often which is so much fun. At night, you go to sleep around 8:30 PM -- around the 5/6 AM feeding, you often want to stay awake and play with me. I love this time but I wish you'd sleep a little longer ;) I know you'll start going longer stretches at night soon.

You love the bath - it's sooo adorable. I think the warm water is really soothing - at your last bath you actually fell asleep!! SO opposite of your sister - it's a huge relief. Your skin is very dry so I only bathe you 2-3 times a week. Once you start crawling and running around, you'll get bathes more often!

You are just starting to look at us and focus - I have seen you smile at me after I smile at you - I don't know if it's on purpose yet but I can't wait for those smiles!!!

On Wednesdays, Thursdays & Fridays, we spend the day together - just you & I - Layla goes off to school or Mom-Mom & Pop-Pop's house and Dada is at work. It's so much fun - we nap a lot, clean and play. I'll take out the play mat this week so you can get some tummy time in. Your head control is really amazing already - my strong little man.

Everyone that meets you says how adorable you are - they all also comment on your size. You are so big. It's amazing. I think you will have to play sports ;)

We love you so much little man - thank you for bringing us so much joy in these past month. Keep on growing and sorry Layla is always in your face - it's because she loves you so stinking much!!

xoxo,
Mama

Height: 32 1/4 inches - still the same!

My dear girl...

I'm (once again) changing up the way I write these letters, because you are constantly changing as well. This past month has been a whirlwind. The blink of an eye. At the start of you turning 19 months, you were an only child. And now - one month later, you've been a big sister for over 3 weeks. It's hard to believe!!

We couldn't be prouder of you, my love. You have embraced Benjamin as your own - your love for him is overwhelming. The first thing you do is yell BENNY when you wake up - (or sometimes BOP because Mama sings a silly song titled "Benny Bop") - you kiss him, hug him, hold him, squeeze him. You put his pacifier back in when it falls out (not without sometimes putting it in your mouth first.. just to test it out ;) ) - you are so motherly and loving. You don't seem concerned when he cries - you just pat his back or rub his head. It's as though you know he's okay - no need to worry. When I am nursing him, you want to sit on my lap and snuggle up. I let you even if there is no room - I will always make sure there is room for you, my dear.

The Way You Look -- Tall, THIN, gorgeous. I swear, overnight, you got taller and thinned out so much -- your rolls are all but disappearing and your sweet chubby cheeks are a distant memory. Your big blue eyes stare at me with such intensity. Your hair is getting LONG and we are still in a stage where it needs to be put up in a ponytail or it's in your face. I don't want to cut it. I love it long. I am going to attempt piggytails this weekend - you'll look adorable. Your skin is so fair and soft, I often find myself wondering how in the world I created something so perfect.

The Way You Learn -- We are all about learning, nowadays. Lots of books. Lots of counting. Lots of letter, numbers, colors. You can count to 10. You are learning animal sounds, letter sounds, shapes, colors. You soak it all in and we love to watch you. At school, you are learning a lot and it is clear you are remembering. You love to read books - any books - but your current favorites are "Brown Bear, Brown Bear" and "The Very Hungry Caterpillar" - Eric Carle is your main author! You still love your Elmo books, too. You still love to play in your kitchen, with your blocks, and more. Your new trick is CLIMBING - on everything - and anything. It's scary but funny, too. You love to put on your shoes & jacket yourself. You also put on my shoes. Too cute. You are over watching TV (wahoo!) but if you are in the mood, you watch Sesame Street and old Muppets movies. Otherwise you seem to want to play rather then watch.

The Way You Sleep -- We are now officially down to ONE nap a day!! It's awesome because we can play more in the morning. I wish you'd nap a little longer, but I'll take what I can get - you have lunch around 11:15 and nap right after - anywhere from 1-2 hours. At first, you were only sleeping for 45 minutes but it's increased with time. At school, you nap over 2 hours (and they need to wake you!) so I'm wondering why you don't at home?? Maybe because you love me too much ;) You go to bed between 7 and 7:30 and wake up between 7:00 and 7:30 (rarely earlier, rarely later). You sleep right through Benny crying during the night which is a huge relief.

The Way You Eat -- Food, snacks, food, snacks. Possibly your favorite thing to do is EAT!! I love it because you were so picky for so long. You'll try mostly anything but have your favorites. Fruit (all), apple sauce, all Plum Organic Snacks, peanut butter and ice cream are your favorites. I'm going to slowly introduce more foods to you but it makes me so proud that you'll eat. I think you'd rather do 6 small meals a day then 3 bigger meals (which is healthier!)

The Way You Are A Toddler -- Testing, testing, testing - with a side of (small) tantrums. You yell "MINE" and "HEY!" when you want something. It's taking getting used to watching you become a true toddler -- I'm learning the best ways to deal with it. I don't want to yell at you or constantly say no, but I need to keep you safe. It seems you are always into something that you shouldn't be - you look at me with a face of "Is this going to make you mad??" and then proceed. My tricky, little bug. It's all a part of growing up and I will always help you make the right decisions.

... my little love, I could write for days. I never want to forget the moments, the everyday details that will be forgotten but for now, make up our days. We are so grateful for you. I cannot BELIEVE we are 4 months away from another birthday - where is time going?! I am going to officially start planning your party this month (and it's looking like a Muppets theme is in order) - I'm just in shock. Wasn't it yesterday we celebrated your 1st birthday?!!

This month, I hope to do lots of learning, lots of art projects and squeeze in as many hugs and kisses as possible. I love you, my girl. Keep growing...

Lots of love,

Mama

Two Weeks. Three Weeks.

Can I be anymore behind in my blogging attempts??
Uh.
While I'd love to sit here and write a long post about these past 2 weeks, the truth is my house is a disaster, the laundry is piled up, there are books/toys/assorted food displayed across my living room floor.. and most importantly, there is a 23 day old little man snoring next to me on the sofa. And all I want to do is kiss his face and soak him in.

It's been a crazy, exhausting, liberating, exciting and overall fabulous couple of weeks.

In no particular order......

We had a million visitors.
We received a million gifts.
We celebrated Benny turning 2 weeks. And 3 weeks.
Josh's mom left.
I developed mastitis.
Benny slept. He slept some more. He went spans of 4-6 hours some nights, and 2-3 hours other nights.
We all got colds.
Layla loves Benjamin in this overwhelming way... she only wants to hold him, kiss him, hug him. She practices putting diapers on her baby dolls. And feeding them. She's so motherly, naturally.
Benny is awake more during the day. He smiles sometimes and giggles out loud when sleeping.
He's losing hair.
We dealt with jaundice (and won!)
His belly button fell off.
He had his first bath (and loved it, minus the cold parts).
Layla is testing, testing, testing our limits. She's fast entering the lovely 2 year old phase.
Layla loves school - NO more tears at drop off - success!!
We signed her up for "camp" and school next year - she'll start going 3 days a week.
I survived my first 2 days of watching both babies by myself. Not only did I survive - we actually had fun! We made it to music class, open gym at romp and roll and a visit to see Heather, Adam & Justin.
I ordered 5 books and started one - Gone Girl. I've read 7 pages so far. At this rate I'll finish all 5 books by 2097.
We celebrated Superbowl with Shari & Brian - the tradition continues! Josh made an intense amount of food.
I cried. A lot. Thanks, hormones.
I no longer look 5-6 months pregnant. I now look 3-4 months pregnant. I can't wait to start dieting and working out. OH! And.. I now have stretch marks. I think 11 of them. Post baby stretch marks, who knew? I pray they'll fade - or become a cool thing to have.

Ok..
I have so much more to write and tell and stories to say but instead I'm going to eat some lunch. And snuggle. And clean. And maybe even nap -- two kiddies is NO joke. And yes, they're 19 months apart. And yes, I worry I'm not giving one enough attention or Layla is bored or she's eaten organic fruit snacks for the 8th time today because I'm too tired to say no...

But I wouldn't change it. I am happy and learning and attempting to be the best mama and the best wife I can be.

<3

(since writing this post, Layla has thrown up 3 times. I'm terrified she has the stomach virus going around. please say a prayer as I have NO CLUE how to take care of a sick baby while also taking care of a newborn!!)

(apologies now for the picture overload! all from my phone)

After school snuggles with my two babies.
Josh taught her how to drive....
